Memento Mori

I found this story very hard to predict. At first I thought the story would go on for awhile, building up a foundation, and then explain what happened. Maybe the character got into a car accident with his wife and she died but he was injured severally to where he has trouble with short term memory. As the story went on it changed what I had recently thought might be happening. My new thoughts were that someone killed his wife and was out to get him and that some person was leaving these notes for him so that he would realize what happened and maybe snap out of out everything and put it all together again. However, the story ended and I am still unsure of what exactly the author was trying to portray. Was the male character writing the letters to himself? Was it a friend of his? Is it me, am I the only one in the whole class who may not have completely followed this storyline?
